HSS Regional Webinar: Understanding Gene Therapy for Haemophilia

HSS Regional Webinar: Understanding Gene Therapy for Haemophilia

Gene therapy is one of the most significant advances in haemophilia care in recent years, offering new possibilities that were unimaginable just a generation ago. As research continues and treatment becomes available in more countries, many people with haemophilia and their families are asking the same questions: How does gene therapy work? Who is it suitable for? And what might it mean for the future of haemophilia care?

Our Speaker

We are honoured to welcome Professor Cihan Ay from the Medical University of Vienna, Austria.

Professor Ay is Professor of Haematology at the Medical University of Vienna and Head of the Haemophilia Outpatient Clinic at Vienna General Hospital. He also leads the Thrombosis and Haemostasis Research Group and has been closely involved in advancing haemophilia care, including the clinical implementation of gene therapy.

The Haemophilia Society of Singapore (HSS) is pleased to invite members of our community to a special educational webinar exploring these questions.

Date: Wednesday, 19 August 2026
Time: 8.30pm Singapore Time (SGT)
Duration: 1 hour, incl. a live Q&A session

What Will Be Covered?

During the webinar, Professor Ay will share:

  1. An introduction to how gene therapy works in haemophilia
  2. Insights from global clinical trials
  3. Current evidence on the benefits, considerations and limitations of gene therapy
  4. Austria’s experience in making gene therapy available as a clinical treatment option
  5. What these developments could mean for the future of haemophilia care
  6. Participants will also have the opportunity to ask questions during a live Q&A session.

Learning Together Across the Region

Following the positive response to our recent regional travel webinar, HSS is once again pleased to extend this invitation to our friends and partner haemophilia organisations in Malaysia, Thailand and Brunei.

By bringing together members of our community from across the region, we hope to create more opportunities to learn from international experts, share knowledge, and stay informed about the latest developments in haemophilia care.

We look forward to welcoming you to the webinar.
